Spring Fling

DSC_0191

It all started with a text. Patty had this idea of organizing a summer soiree for our blogs where we can invite our close friends and sponsors and give away our favorite things, just how Oprah or Ellen does it. How could I say no to Patty?!! It sounded like A LOT OF FUN. I mean, what was there to think about? It was an intimate gathering with our girlfriends, and our main purpose was to make our blogs to come to life. Like if our blog posts weren’t a static thing on a screen, what would it look like? The answer: SPRING FLING! It was pure genius, and I was definitely in! Also in was Patty’s longtime BFF, talented artist Alessa. So our three blogs: lifeafterbreakfast.com, pattylaurel.com and kellymisa.com organized this fun, girly event where we could be ourselves and talk about things we love. For Alessa, its arts and crafts, creating beautiful things and decorating; for Patty, its talking about food and travel and a bit of fashion; and for me, its all about fashion and beauty. But more than anything you have to understand that Spring Fling was created as a platform to push for positive blogging. Its a happy event by happy people to push for happiness! Also we wanted our guests to feel super special and kind of go crazy (Oprah/Ellen crazy haha)–and we are happy to announce that we were able to do just that!

Now, I have to admit, I was a little intimidated by this event. Patty has been blogging since 2005 and has thousands of loyal readers and so does Alessa who has been blogging since 2011. Also their blogs are pretty amazing, when I scroll down their blogs (and that’s often) I am seriously proud to be their friends. They have such wonderful personalities and are so talented, you just want to keep on reading what they have to say. I, on the other hand, started my blog a little late (2012) and I admit I am still “finding myself” through my blog. Haha it sounds so cliche, I know–finding myself! But I guess since this initially started as a beauty blog which turned into a lifestyle blog, and finally a personal lifestyle blog, I don’t really see where this is going. But hey, that’s life I guess. In a way I blog about the things I love! And so let me just clarify that the feeling of intimidation lasted for less than a minute, because Patty and Alessa are really the nicest, most welcoming, most generous people you’ll ever meet. And so I got over it almost IMMEDIATELY haha.

Of course, to make this event a success (which I am happy and proud to say, IT WAS), we needed the help of our good friends. First of all, we wouldn’t have been able to put up this event without the help of SUPER EVENTS PLANNER Marge Montemayor. She was seriously the glue that held everything together. Her efficiency, quick action and O.C.ness brought the event to life and we can all agree, she did an amazing job! Early Bird Breakfast Club also played a huge part in this, because their food is just so good and their restaurant so pretty, we didn’t need to decorate! Thank you, Early Bird for closing the restaurant for us on a Saturday and serving us a five-course lunch, with appetizers, drinks and tea (complete with yummy pastries). We love your restaurant (its at Century City Mall in Makati, in case you were wondering)! Photography on that day was by Chris Clemente, and having her was a big help! We were so preoccupied with getting the event running in tiptop shape we seriously didn’t have time to take photos or even Instagram. Thanks Clems, for helping us out! To our wonderful SPONSORS who believed in the event from the start–thank you so much for being a part of Spring Fling! You’ll be happy to know that everyone loved the things you gave them (us especially) and the grand prizes were SUPER! Everyone got excited about them, and of course, the winners loved their prizes! And lastly, to our lovely guests who didn’t really understand what Spring Fling was about but still came to support us, THANK YOU!!! We are happy that you were part of the first ever Spring Fling! Hope to see you all in the next one!

I know, I know. I could already read your minds. You guys, my readers, should be in the next Spring Fling! Patty, Alessa and I are working on this. We seriously want you all to be part of this happy event, as a way to thank you for your continuous support. I will be announcing something at the end of this post so keep scrolling. This is a pretty long blog post!

HI Kelly! i think it would be merrier next #SpringFlingPH if the three of you will invite your avid blog readers (raises hands! hahaha) (one each from you, patty and alessa) You can also invite the positive bloggers and DIY lovers for more happiness. 🙂

  2. joann Reply

wow, congrats on making the event a success, it looks so much fun!! i wish next year’s spring fling would also allow some readers/followers of your blog to join. and to make the event even better, maybe the arts and crafts made by the bloggers/attendees could be sold online then the proceeds can be donated to a charitable institution. 🙂

  3. Jet B Reply

After seeing the IG posts and blogs of the ladies who were part of Spring fling, I was truly amazed and yes, envious of all the goodies and prizes given away. I think the event was perfectly planned and executed. The concept was appropriate for the target audience, but I think more women can be invited to participate in the event. Women from different fields like education, law, and government can partake in this fun and exciting activity. This will help the mentioned group of women to be more relaxed, rejuvinated, and inspired to do better in their careers 🙂

    Hi Kelly!

I just really need to join this contest because my IG got bombarded with all the happenings in your Spring Fling and I admit I got jealous seeing all your giveaways :)) this is my first time to join in your contest and leave a comment here but I always check your blog so no worries :))

Anyway, for the next Spring Fling (I hope I get to join too hahaha!) how about doing it in a roof deck? decorated with flowers, benches, colorful mugs & utensils, Christmas lights or with a pool?! with a wall full of balloons as a backdrop for a photo shoot! Since you did Calligraphy on your first Spring Fling how about a cooking/baking game? like BBQ with a twist? like how to cook or make a food from junk to healthy! the most creative group and definitely should taste great wins a price! then you can have your talk like tips on travels, beauty regimens, ideas for a fast and simple menus, money talk, etc! and of course, the last part would be your awesome giveaways!!! hahaha!

Congrats Kelly on the “Spring Fling” event! It was amazing seeing all my favorite bloggers in one event! I think I actually “liked/loved” every picture that you, Patty and Alessa posted on instagram about the event haha everything’s so pretty and organized! <3 <3 <3 Here's to hoping your readers (like me) can join the next one 😉 while this could just be a dream for now, here's some ideas on how to make the next Spring Fling better and lovelier: the next Spring Fling can have an outdoor setting, no need to fly to a far away city, but a short drive to tagaytay or a place with a big and beautiful garden will do, with tables and chairs beautifully designed in reference to the spring theme. In one corner, we can set up a spring fling dessert buffet with flower cupcakes, cookies, mallows, and pretty cakes which everyone can enjoy in between activities. In another spot, we can set up a booth which prints the guests' instagram photos with the hashtag #springfling so everyone will have instant souvenir photos from the event. Since spring is about transformation, Kelly can talk about how you can transform a day look to an instant evening look without adding much on, then Patty can talk about her travels to her favorite countries changed her to become a better person, while Alessa can teach the guests on how to make or preserve pressed-flowers since spring is also about flowers in full bloom 🙂 well these are just some ideas which i hope can help 🙂 *fingers crossed* hope i win! 🙂 on a side note, congrats also kelly on your new show, Trending Now! Awesome job! 🙂 thanks for inspiring young professionals like me especially when it comes to lifestyle and beauty tips! 🙂 Cheers and more power to your show and blog! 🙂

I love this blog entry. I’m so amazed with all the activities you guys have done, especially because I love doing things related to arts and crafts. i suggest that maybe you guys could do more baking activities, or something like that, then add designs and arts in it (e.g. cookie or cupcake designing)? Or do something like scrapbooking because I think that it would help a lot of people if there is more interaction with the other guests (or make it by group with timer hehe). Other than that, I’d just like to congratulate you guys for the successful Spring Fling! 🙂

Love everything about Spring. 🙂 And love what you did with your Spring flint event. How about partner with Moveable Feast (not related to the owner but just a fan of their idea) on your next one? Since most people are into organic, greens and natural, it will be such a treat to hold your event at any farm or garden down south, surprise the guests with a hand &/or foot spa treat after the fabulous healthy yet sumptuous meal and capped off by giving away local organic products. 🙂

It’s a one-of-a-kind event!! Hoping to attend the next Spring Fling! ♥

Here are some of my ideas for the next #SpringFlingPH:
    1) More activities such as paper flower making workshop by lifeafterbreakfast.com, fashion styling and beauty tips by kellymisa.com and foodtripping and travel 101 by pattylaurel.com!

    2) Sponsors’ booths where attendees can participate to games/activities and complete their “event passports” to win more exciting prizes and loots!

  9. glaizalove Reply

Hello Ms. Kelly! As I am typing this I get kilig and excited already for the next Summer Fling. I prepared activities that are doable and suits to the three of you to talk about.
First, I wish there would be red or violet carpet on the entrance where every guest can walk as they will be photographed. sounds like Oscar’s lang. Haha. And the most fashionable or Best-Dressed will be awarded.
Can we also have photo booths, too? Also a celebrity guest and he/she will perform for us 😀
Since Patty’s blog is about travel, food and a bit of fashion, maybe she can give us a talk about travel must-haves, outfit ideas when traveling + make up tutorial. Also an activity where we can decorate our own cupcakes. That would be fun. ♡
As for you Ms Kelly, since your blog is about fashion and beauty, you can talk about outfit ideas for summer. You can also award the one who won the best-dressed guest and talk about her look. 🙂 you love nail-arts, right? Maybe you can do a tutorial? 😀
    For Ms. Alessa,

  10. glaizalove Reply

since her blog is about arts and crafts, Let’s do some DIYs. I looooove DIYs. We can make DIY head dress/head bands (for sure uso parin po un next year. Hehe) DIY accessories, DIY bouquet of paper flowers or any origami related DIY.
Lastly, can we do the Summer Fling in a garden or any open places? Let’s end the party with FIREWORKS! that would be awesome! Gosh I’m so excited already. Haha

Hope you’ll like it Ms Kelly. 🙂 God bless!

Kudos to the three of you and everyone who helped made this event possible. I regularly read all 3 blogsites and it’s amazing to see all of you collectively come up with such an amazing event. As for suggestions, it would also be interesting to learn about married life/ relationships (tips to healthy relationships/married life adventures, learning to cook simple recipes, etc.) and motherhood (being first time moms/the joy of motherhood perhaps, etc.)- maybe other speakers can also be invited for this. Although not everyone fall in either of the said categories, it would still be helpful as women to prepare for that aspect of their/our lives.

Another idea (maybe in a different year/setting) it would also be nice to make it a social development type of event. You could probably invite less fortunate women and share to them about beauty, hope, entrepreneurship, arts, etc. (perhaps something that they can even translate into livelihood) and that can inspire them in life.

Thanks and God bless all of you in your future plans!

Hi Kelly, Patty and Alessa! First of all, I would like to congratulate the three of you for this very A-W-E-S-O-M-E event! Yah, I know I wasn’t there but after reading your blog, it made me feel like I really went there. Hihihi 😀 It was so lovely!!! I can’t help myself but kiligin while reading it (PS: I’m in the office. Hihi.). The venue was really nice; the interior matched the #SpringFling theme. Plus, the sponsors were very generous, everyone was so lucky to have everything!!

Maybe on the next Spring Fling, I think it’s a great idea to do it outdoors—in a hotel, near the beach where you can see the sun set. It would really be perfect!! <3 I hope you can invite your dear blog readers to join you in this pretty event because surely we'll be more than glad to come. =) Since people nowadays are fond of DIY stuff, baking, food, fashion, lifestyle, beauty, TRAVEL, and arts and crafts (et cetera!), maybe you can also invite other talented and creative people (just like the three of you!) to share their stories and talents to the guests. Some people just need some motivation/inspiration to do what they think can make them happy… just like I do! :')

  13. Kristine Dianne Millete Reply

Since #SpringFlingPH is all about pushing positive and happy blogging and making the blogs of 3 inspiring, empowering and positive women come to life, we would love to see the next event push forward an advocacy close to the bloggers’ hearts. Maybe you can consider adopting a beneficiary which your guests and sponsors can help through the event. At the end of the day, the fulfillment and happiness that each person will take away will be one that extends beyond the happy stuff that they will get for the day! 🙂 The event will summarize the 3S which also the 3 bloggers stands for (in my humble opinion) Simple, Sweet and Significant. 🙂

    Hi Kelly! 😊
Maybe you can try the Spring Fling outdoor and include physical activities. Tagaytay would be a nice place.
You could fulfill a bucket list for one whole day.
    In my mind are:
    1. Create a spring fling playlist that you can listen while on a road trip from Manila to Tagaytay
    2. Jogging
    3. Outdoor picnic for breakfast
    4. Talk and activity c/o Patty
    5. Cupcake frosting
    6. Talk and activity c/o Kelly
    7. Boodle fight lunch
    8. Talk and activity c/o your chosen blog readers/blogger
    9. Acoustic jamming
    10. Talk and activity c/o Alessa
    11. Kite flying
    12. Horseback riding
    13. Outdoor movie viewing

Sounds like a spring full of fun, right? 😊

Congrats Kelly, Patty and Alessa for the great success of the first Spring Fling!!! Seems that all the ladies who were there experienced a lot of fun. I wish I was one of them. 🙂

To make the next Spring Fling better, happier and more memorable, here is the list of my ideas you might want to incorporate on the next Spring Fling:

    1. Invite some of you, Patty and Alessa’s blog readers to the event. It will be fair enough if you will conduct a contest for readers to participate. This way, they will not get jealous. Hehe. Winners will get a chance to attend the next Spring Fling. The more, the merrier! 🙂

    2. It will be more fun if all attendees will come to the venue wearing attire that has a theme. For example, floral top or dress, color-themed clothes (yellow, light green, pink or light blue will do), or all attendees should wear flower crowns. Cute!!!

    3. For giveaways/sponsors, I suggest, if and only possible to include the following:
    *Beauty and Wellness
    – Spa Gift Certificates
    – Healthy juices
    – Organic Goods
*Travel – discount or free trip/accomodation to places here or abroad (perhaps as a major prize) Yehey!
*Arts and Crafts – mod podge, motex, etc.
*Food – Gift Certificates to Restaurants or Coffee Shops
*Free magazine or 1 year subscription of you, Patty and Alessa’s fave magazines (about beauty, fashion, food, travel, arts and crafts, and the like)

    4. Since Spring Fling promotes positive blogging, maybe the three of you might want to conduct a seminar/workshop where you can share tips to aspiring bloggers. That would be nice!

    5. I suggest that you, Patty and Alessa create a separate IG account for Spring Fling PH. 🙂 So that it will not just be the hashtag. 🙂 Hoping this is possible. 🙂

    6. Group Activities where everyone will get along with each other.
    – Charades
    – Group Cheer
Here, you’ll be like kids, but definitely full of fun. Haha.

    7. Group Sharing where everyone get the chance to talk and share their experiences, knowledge and skills about food, travel, beauty, fashion, crafting, and more. All will learn from each other.

    8. The next Spring Fling can be held in Sonya’s Garden Tagaytay or Nuvali, Sta. Rosa City, Laguna. The latter is nearer Metro Manila. More convenient, i guess. 🙂

    9. You can have a surprise guest too. Someone in line of what each of you blogs.

    Thanks Kelly! 🙂

Reading this blog was such an inspiration for me. Just by looking at the Springfling photos, I felt so alive and motivated. It actually gave me pure sense of happiness and belongingness. The photos radiated love, fun, and a sense of being a family. That is why, for the next springfling, i do hope that it would be a mother-daughter bonding. The guests hopefully can bring their moms including the moms of Kelly, Patty and Alessa. Our moms need also an activity like this for a breath of fresh air, to relax and experience pure fun! Activities may range from simple flower arrangement (may be as centerpiece), how to make homemade bodyscrub, footscrub, also crafts like DIY jewelry organizer.. and the list goes on! (any activity will do as long as it is done with love!) Moms can also share tips or ideas on how to have a room/home that’s clutter-free (this is really most helpful esp for us women who keep lots of things!) Of course, the event would be most memorable if everyone could have a taste of lutong-bahay menus prepared of course by the moms! I’m realy looking forward for the next springfling, and hopefully my mom and I can join this fun-filled event! God bless!

    Hi Miss Kelly,
Congratulations to you, Patty, and Alessa for the success on your first #SpringFlingPH! It was definitely a fun-filled, creative, and very exciting event for all the participants.

For the next SpringFlingPH, here are some of my ideas that you can possibly use and incorporate for the next event.

My idea for the next SpringFlingPH aims to celebrate the creativity and festive culture of the Philippines. Since the vibe of the first SpringFlingPH already started a youthful, celebration of beauty and talent of the organizers and participants, I think it would be perfect to continue such vibe but this time with a local twist. Since SpringFling was conceptualized, attended, and supported by almost all Filipino brands and attendees, it would be great to also include other aspects of Philippine culture to your event.

    1. Location: Rooftop of Barbaras in Intramuros, Manila: to make known to all your blog readers the beauty of the historical walled city and it will let you and your participants take back to memory lane while at the same time promote Philippine arts and culture through the synergy of the participants and venue where SpringFlingPH will be held.

    2. Participants: Since the first SpringFlingPH were attended by close friends of the organizers and bloggers, I would like to suggest that for the next one, you also include young, empowered, and talented Filipinas from various sectors: education, development, law, government, NGOs, starting business (social entrepreneur), other Filipina bloggers, and perhaps selected readers of your respective blogs (LifeAfterBreakast.com, Pattylaurel.com, and of course, kellymissa.com)

    3. Sponsors: The line-up of sponsors during the first SpringFlingPH was definitely amazing but I would highly suggest to include other Filipino fashion and beauty brands and starting Filipino social entrepreneurs’ to be part of the next SpringFlingPh event

    4. Food: Traditional Filipino cuisine and desserts! I am certain this will be a sure hit to all your participants.

    5. Decoration: DIY Pahiyas inspired decoration of the venue and participants should wear at least a colorful Filipino made accessory or brand to the event.

    6. Activities: Patty can share her experiences and tips while traveling within the Philippines, Alessa can possibly teach the participants how to make bags/ pouch using local textiles ; Calligraphy can be exciting by teaching the participants “ alibata calligraphy”, and you can share fashion and beauty tips on what to wear (styling wise and make up) for all the participants for the next SpringFlingPH event

Thank you so much Kelly! Keeping my fingers and toes for this blog giveaway!

First of all, allow me to congratulate each of you for a very successful event, though I’m not part of it, I celebrate with you guys because you have given us an impact (a very positive one) and you’ve influenced us in the way we see our own blog sites.

I really love the concept of ‘our blog has come to life’. (: And so glad that it will be an annual event!! something, we will look forward too, yes.. I say, WE because I’m proposing the idea of Blog Awards. I know many women who were bloggers since 2005 pa, and at the same time, those bloggers who were just starting and needs to learn so much from you.

It will mean to say The Spring Fling event will be open to bloggers who will be nominated for the different set of awards in which three of you will be choosing.

Like me, when I started to blog, it was just for personal reasons, but of course like you, I also wanted a wide readership to further influence and share life giving messages to my readers.

I just can imagine the joy this event can give to bloggers, and how it will encourage them to simply love what they’re doing, which is.. to share stories that will help all, (including us) to continuously learn and grow and embrace life in the most wonderful way possible. (:

Aside from Blog Awards, minor proposals include:

BLOGGING 101. (This event will be open to new bloggers who needs to know what really blogging is all about, including the dos/don’ts in blogging community)

Let’s do it outdoors this time. Focus more on the SPRING theme. 🙂

Inspirational message: All about Girl Power/Women Empowerment

Top 10 for each of you.
(Example: For Ms. Patty; Top 10 Travel Spots and why it’s a must see)

As for the giveaways, those were just too many already and I believe your sponsors will not hesitate to support you once again. (: (And who knows, madadagdagan pa po yan) (:

I really hope you will consider it, and we are all anticipating for the next Spring Fling, hoping we will also be joining the lucky ladies there. :))

    Keep on inspiring us! (:

    Hi Kelly! 🙂

How are you? I hope you are fine. 🙂

While I was looking for something in my closet, I thought of “Additional Spring Fling Ideas” to what i have posted here last April 24.

    For #6 Group Activities:

    – Official Logo of the Spring Fling Group Contest (if the first photo here is not yet the official hehe)- where everyone could brainstorm, then make it creatively on a cartolina or cardboard. Alessa may conduct this to the attendees. 🙂 The best logo wins. Wow! Spring Fling will have its official logo. You can also have the chosen logo to be the design of shirts which all attendees would wear on your 3rd Spring Fling. 😉

    – If the photo above is already the official logo, then to brainstorm the Spring Fling Tagline would be my suggestion.

    – Flower arranging can be part of the list too. Spring indeed! 🙂 Arranging and designing prowess of all the ladies will come out.

Looking forward to a better, or even best Spring Fling using the “creative and do-able” ideas shared by us, your blog readers.

    Thanks Kelly!

i think a ‘fair’ type would be a good idea. wherein all the bloggers will have their booths and activities. in that way, more people can join. 🙂 sponsors should have their booths too! 🙂

Hi Kelly… congrats to you, Alessa and Patty… seeing all your photos and reading all the blogposts about #springflingPH made me say oooohhh and woooow too. Wishing I was also there at the event… It looked so much fun and it I think you really got your goal of sending positive vibes and sharing the love.

Heres are ideas to your next #springflingPH event:
    – Since Patty is into travel, why not do it different cities but the same concept. Its like a nationwide event. Also a very good way of promoting the cities of the Philippines.
    – Basic make-up workshop or basic styling.

    Can’t wait for your next springfling… =)

    Hi Kelly,
Hope you had a good weekend. Thanks to you, Patty and Alessa for sharing positivism!

For the next Spring Fling, I would like to suggest that it’ll be done in another city/province in either Visayas and/or Mindanao. Since one of the intents of the event is to provide positive and creative content for your readers through your respective sites, it would be great to have that exchange in a local setting with likeminded bloggers and readers. For example, the Davao bloggers community is very active and I’m pretty sure they’ll be ecstatic to learn from you how they might be able to expand their networks at the same time widen their readership. They might even be motivated to start Spring Fling (city/province) Chapter! Furthermore, Visayas and Mindanao are so rich in culture, and having its products/cuisines/travel destinations highlighted in your sites and events will boost its image and hopefully inspire more interest and connection among young people. With such an opportunity, just maybe, a reader or two might be encouraged to start writing and find his/her niche in the blogosphere. Cheers!

Hi Kelly! First of all, congratulations on such a successful event. It looks like all three of you created one of the most talked about events of the year. I’ve been a fan of Patty’s blog since she started it and I’ve always found it to be one of the most positive local blogs on the internet. I’ve also joined a few of Alessa’s craft soirees and have learned so much from her, most especially how to truly live a creative life. And although I only discovered your blog last year, I’m glad to get to know more about the face I first saw on an issue of Candy Magazine back when I was a teenager.

I’m excited about your question for this giveaway because it means (and I’m crossing my fingers) that there will be more Spring Flings in the future! I truly hope that you organize more events that inspire and give off happy vibes to the world.

For my suggestion, and if it’s not too tiring for the three of you, why not make the event a biannual thing? Spring Fling can be during the start of the year where you can also share the upcoming trends, brands, products, etc. that you like. Sort of giving the public a preview of what’s to come for the year, since you might have knowledge of what’s new before most of the public does. And then, towards the end of the year, have another event that’s like the year in review.

Alessa already has out of town craft camps, so it might also be a possibility for you to organize a Spring Fling event outside of Metro Manila. This also ties in well with Patty’s travel segment.

You can also invite influential women who have made their mark in their careers and personal lives, and ask them to share their stories, in line with spreading more positive vibes.

Maybe you can also feature more (if not all) locally made brands and products because not a lot of people know that a lot of Filipino-made products are actually world-class, such as Rags2Riches. I still can’t believe how good the latest collection is, and the Mariana mint green tote is my current everyday bag. It fits everything! It’s a great way to encourage more Filipinos to be proud of our own talents and goods. It can also be brands and products that are made/run by Filipinas. It would be a great statement for any woman out there who thinks that she can’t make a mark in patriarchal industries or societies.

Lastly, maybe you can also invite young Filipina women (teens to early twenties) to attend the event to inspire them. Sort of like a big sister-little sister thing, and maybe when they’re older, it can be their turn to create a positive event like Spring Fling, and inspire more and more girls and women in the future.

Whatever you choose to do, I’m wishing you all the best! Thank you for this opportunity to voice out.
