The Girl + The Bull

Since going on a break from my show I finally have more time to go out and meet my best buddies on a regular basis. Our favorite thing to do has always been to eat/drink and try out new restaurants. So whenever we hear good reviews about a place, we really find the time to try it. We’ve heard great reviews about a new restaurant in BF Homes Paranaque, which we were told was worth the trip. It’s called The Girl + The Bull, and it is right along Aguirre Street.

I have to admit, I didn’t expect much from our little lunch date. I was completely caught by surprise, because the food was delightful and ingenious. Each dish offered something new and flavourful–I liked everything about their food, from their plating and presentation, to its imaginative pairing of ingredients and flavors. It had a fun and quirky twist, which I liked. We each ordered a different dish but ended up eating off each other’s plates, as we were eager to try as many dishes as we could. I like ordering a lot of dishes and trying them all, but I can never finish my food so this was perfect because everyone got to share and taste each dish. It was a visual and gastronomic treat, and a great way to cap a busy week.

IMG_7647Wild Arugula Salad (P295). Consisted of thin slices of apple, radish, crispy bacon larcon, a fragrant truffle vinaigrette, a slow-poached egg, pommery mustard and shaved parmesan, this was amazing. The smell of truffle is always so enticing, but the flavors really complemented each other.

IMG_7649Mushroom Salad (P275). Shiitake, enoki, slices of pear, candied walnuts, blue cheese, fried onions, sesame, honey and evoo. This was equally satisfying. It was both salty and sweet and also crunchy and fresh.

IMG_7658Chicken Confit Bibimbap (P410). Gochujang, kimchi fried rice, slow-poached egg, black sesame, nori and market veggies. It was very good, sweet and a bit spicy.

IMG_7662Blackened Snapper (P450). This fish dish was cooked very well–it was fresh and tasty. It came with a sweet potato puree, vanilla, brussels sprouts, strawberry, beurre blanc and basil oil. This was one of my favorite dishes.

IMG_7677Grass-Fed Beef Tenderloin (P530). This was my order (I’m such a meat lover). This was cooked very well (medium)–the meat was not dry or oily, but very tender. It came with blue cheese emulsion, brown butter, squid ink potato puree, maple red cabbage, torched mushrooms and leeks.

IMG_7666 Roasted Pork Belly (P440). This was similar to lechon kawali but better. The top skin was crispy, just how I like it and it went well with this beetroot puree. It came with hoisin jus, spinach, peanut crumble, coriander oil, coconut cream and spring onion roots.

IMG_7651We started the day right with a nice refreshing cocktail. I got this yummy Ginger Mojito (P175). It was made of white rum, mint, ginger, lime, simple syrup and soda.

IMG_7656Bianca ordered this: The White Rabbit (P215). Its Don Papa Rum, vanilla, star anise and cream soda.

IMG_766980/20 Burger (P420). A burger with all the right trimmings: balsamic onion jam, lime aioli, wild arugula, za’atar, market chips, the beef patty, of course, on a gougere bun. Pretty good.

IMG_7682For dessert, we had Homemade Faux Twix Bars (P160). This was my ultimate favorite. Its just like the candy bar, but better, because its made from fresh ingredients (shortbread, caramel and bittersweet chocolate). Oh and it’s topped with sea salt which brought out the sweetness of the caramel. Best eaten with your hands. Yummy.

IMG_7695It was such a delicious and satisfying lunch. Ill definitely be back again soon! Tip: go on a weekday, there’s hardly any people!

Thank you so much for bringing this to my attention! I usually get a copy of the menu when I try out a new restaurant but I wasn’t able to when I was there. I am so sorry for this mistake. Please note that I already made the changes based on your updated menu. I really loved the food when I ate there–I’ll be sure to come back soon. 🙂
