Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro

I have to admit, when it comes to gadgets, it takes a lot to impress me. In a way I’ve become somewhat hard to please, as technology gets better and more advanced and I become spoiled with new features, better resolutions and faster interfaces. To top it off, design-wise that gadget has to look good, and it has to be durable and virtually un-breakable. In this day and age we tend to want to all, which isn’t all that bad, because there are those few times when we actually get everything we want.

This is one of those few times.

It is called Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro, and being an ex-yoga enthusiast (I’ve decided to take a break from Bikram yoga until after I give birth), the name immediately intrigued me and I wanted to know more about it. What made Lenovo call this “Yoga”? There had to be something about it that was strong and flexible. And I was right, one of the unique selling points of this gadget is that it has a metallic six focus point watch band that allows the laptop to be opened all the way around. Yes, my jaw dropped too. I have always been one of those persons who wondered what would happen if you opened the laptop too far, but never had the guts to try it for myself. Well, with this particular laptop, I was able to satisfy my curiosity and turn the laptop into a completely different gadget: a tablet.

Apparently Lenovo has been doing this with this particular Yoga series for years now (how have I not been made aware of this). For those of you familiar with the Lenovo Yoga series, the Yoga 3 Pro is actually a big step up from its predecessors. The watch band-inspired hinge makes a huge difference, as it can not only flip and fold the laptop into a Stand, Tent, and Display, but lay the laptop out flat, 180 degrees (which you could not do on previous models). And if you aren’t impressed yet, well, you should know that the hinge is made from 800 pieces of steel and aluminum, and has six focus points instead of two. It looks quite beautiful, and really improves this gadget’s design and overall look. The Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro is also significantly thinner and lighter–thinner by 17 percent as compared to the Yoga 2 Pro, and 14 percent slimmer than its older model, at just 12.8 mm, weighing only 1.19 kg. This is pretty amazing, because it is actually light enough to function well as a laptop and a tablet. This is thanks to Lenovo’s new fanless chassis design, which is brought to us by an Intel Core M processor. I can’t tell you enough how much I love this feature. This is actually a major requirement for me, as I travel A LOT, and I need my gadgets to be super light and thin (it’s really the only way to go).

Oh, and did I mention that it is touch screen all the way? Not just when you use it as a tablet. (Another WIN for me.) And yes, if you were wondering about its display, the Yoga 3 Pro has an unbelievably gorgeous Quad-HD (3,200-by-1,800) resolution that makes its 13.3-inch display so worth the money. It also features Gorilla Glass, which protects it from scratches and cracks, so no need to worry about scratches when it comes to this gadget.

And of course, we need to talk about the most important part here: how does its CPU fare? I am no techie, but according to Carlos, my husband (who is a total techie), the Yoga 3 Pro runs on the Intel Core M processor which means it is lower in power consumption, therefore, this gadget has a great battery life. This is essential when traveling, as you’d want your laptop/tablet/display screen to stay with you though out that traffic jam, airport wait/airplane ride, or in bed before sleeping. And yes, this does just that and lasts when you need it to. It also has a Core M 5Y70 that features an upgraded graphics core (Intel HD5300), a base clock of 1.1GHz with the ability to speed up to 2.6GHz when needed. I know, I know, numbers we can’t understand. But Carlos insists I put it there because believe him, you’d want to know. This means it is great for running many applications and programs at the same time (something I ALWAYS do), and makes for smooth video/movie streaming, editing and gaming.

I’ve been using the Yoga 3 Pro for a few months now, and I need to tell you, it is all your essential gadgets rolled into one. It is your laptop, tablet and display screen all in one. I bring it with me practically everywhere I go, so I can easily blog on the go, edit photos, watch movies, browse the Internet and shop online, read books and magazines, stream videos while cooking, and the list goes on. I can flip it any way I want and use it as a Stand, Tent or Display–seriously, this is such a great everyday/travel companion, I don’t think I can survive without it anymore.
