New to try: Belo Baby Talc-free Powder

So, I have a new discovery I wanted to share with you, and it really seems like perfect timing because its summer, and it has been super hot lately. It’s Belo Baby Talc-free Powder, and it has become an essential in my household, no thanks to the sweltering heat we’ve been experiencing these past few weeks. I’ve been raving about it to my mommy friends since I got it. Because to be honest, it does it job well, and it is made from all-natural ingredients, completely hypoallergenic and dermatologist-tested (as you can expect from all Belo Baby products).

Now, it is no big secret that Tristan has been on a serious clothing strike since the temperature went up, and I have tried pretty much everything to get him to wear clothes again. On most days I actually get him to wear clothes, but there are really some days when he just wants to stay naked and cool. It has become quite an issue at home, and while it is funny if you think about it, there are times when it isn’t, especially when we have to be at an event, do a shoot or travel to a different country. And no, he cant be naked while we do those things. You might suggest to just leave him at home, but then I am still breastfeeding, and he latches directly most of the time so that really isn’t an option at the moment.

Okay, so I tried a few things, and they got positive results: you can read the blog post HERE. But it wasn’t until I introduced Belo Baby Talc-Free Powder that I actually got Tristan to wear a full outfit, complete with shoes (a feat in our book). It super works, and FINALLY, we can keep him happy and cool. I need to share this with you, because oh my, it has really been a big struggle for us!

I absolutely love Belo Baby Talc-Free Powder because it is made from certified natural and finely milled rice and maize. It DOES NOT contain TALC (this has become a major issue as of late since studies are linking talc to respiratory problems and an increased risk in cancer), and it is carefully formulated without gluten, phthalates, parabens, dyes, and most common allergens. This makes it super safe for my little guy, and with the wonderful price of P219.75, it is a clearly a win for us moms.

The things I love about it: (1) it is finely-milled and leaves a nice silky feeling on the skin; (2) it has a light baby scent that is so bango on Tristan’s skin, (3) it comes with a powder puff and super cute packaging, and most importantly, (4) it is crafted with care for the most delicate skin, for the most meticulous moms. Seriously, I cannot stop raving about it. Oh, and (5) it is available pretty much everywhere–in leading supermarkets and department stores nationwide and the price is super sulit! You can also order through (they will deliver FOR FREE until May 31).

As always, I want you to actually try this new discovery of mine and see for yourself how good of a product it is. So let me announce A CONTEST! I am giving away three (3) Belo Baby gift packs (which includes 3 pieces of the Belo Baby Talc-free Powder) so you can use them on your precious little loveys.

Calyxta x Baby Barangay

I absolutely love this Baby Barangay feature by! ❤ Click on to their site to see more photos and to shop for amazing beauty essentials. Love my girls!

Motherhood is tough, no doubt, so to find someone who can understand this challenging journey is a true blessing. This is the story of our newest Calyxta Girls – Cat Juan Ledesma, Nicole H. de los Angeles, Patty Laurel-Filart, Kelly Misa-Fernandez, and Bianca Santiago-Reinoso – who made stronger bonds when they became mothers. As they grow into life as moms, they also grew into a group of friends now known to many as Baby Barangay.

Patty Laurel-Filart is the gorgeous model/host who is wife to the Managing Director at Industree TV and CEO of, Patrick Filart, and mom to Theo Oliver, almost 2. She tells Calyxta, “A lot of moms and dads need all the help that they can get. We have been so blessed because we have our parents to help us. We have our amazing household help that have been superheroes to us, and even our cousins and relatives. But it’s wonderful to go through life, especially in this very difficult season, with friends who can actually relate and friends who can actually cheer you on. And that’s what we find in Baby Barangay – it’s a life-long friendship! It’s nice to journey through different seasons with people who understand where you’re coming from.”

Beauty editor and lifestyle blogger Cat Juan Ledesma considers the group as an integral part of her life, especially in the last couple of years. Wife to film director Carlo Ledesma and mom to 4-year-old Fin and 2-year-old Nara, she shares, “[Baby Barangay] has been there for me through any questions, any hardships, in any obstacle I come across in my parenting journey. These are friends of mine who support me in whatever decision I do. They are there always to offer whatever helping hands they can.”

Baby Barangay is quickly becoming social media’s hottest mom squad, with brands eager to work with the quintet of pretty women who are not just devoted wives but have also been blessed with the most beautiful kids. This combination proved to be appealing to thousands of moms and to big brands. In a world full of mean moms and mothers criticizing each other for their parenting choices, how refreshing to see moms actually cheering each other on! For example, in Baby Barangay, you have moms who breastfeed and moms who use formula. And that’s okay! This rare mommy sisterhood of Baby Barangay is so inspiring that brands now fall over themselves trying to get the wholesome friendship this group of mommies have to be part of their brand identities. Who’d have thought that a simple friendship can turn to something big?

Cat, Patty, Kelly, Nicole and Bianca would never have thought that this would happen when two years ago, they started chatting on Whatsapp. The five new moms would talk about motherhood, parenting, and all the other things they couldn’t discuss with their husbands. According to Bianca Santiago-Reinoso, the fashion stylist who is wife to Raoul Reinoso, Co-Founder/Marketing Director at Titan and SLAM Philippines, and mom to 4-year-old Liana and 1-year-old Juano, “We’re a group of friends who for some happy reason became much closer because we all became moms almost at the same time.”

Nicole H. de los Angeles, the former Pond’s girl who is now wife to entrepreneur Jaime de los Angeles and mom to 4-year-old Luis Joaquin and 2-year-old Jaime Aloncito, adds, “We’ve known each other for years since we were probably in high school and towards college as well. We all had relationships with each other individually, but it’s only now that we became moms, wives, and more or less got pregnant at the same time that we really gravitated towards each other. You know, it’s like we formed our own support group.”

As the support group began to bond further, their families would go out for dinners and travel together. On a trip to Cebu—of course with all their families in tow!—Patty named their group, “Baby Barangay.” Patty says, “It really has been this barangay in a sense because we’re a huge group, and when we travel, we take up a lot of space and two vans that are filled with a lot of suitcases! It grew as an extension of our family because eventually our husbands have become friends and our kids have been growing up together, so it almost seems like they’re cousins.”

More than doing activities and going on trips together, the group has always been present in each other’s lives especially in battling the challenges of motherhood. Kelly Misa-Fernandez, model and lifestyle blogger who is wife to businessman Carlos Fernandez and mom to Tristan Antonio, almost 2, admits, “Motherhood has been incredibly hard but these girls have made it easier. I value their advice and their no-judgment friendship. I would never have lasted this part of my life without them. They’re my go-to people when it comes to motherhood.”

Bianca adds, “As they say, it really takes a village to raise your kids so I’m blessed to have these girls.” Nicole concludes, “I probably wouldn’t survive motherhood or be where I am today without these girls with me and sharing whatever I experience with them on a daily basis. I’m lucky to have friends to go through life with, knowing they’re rallying for me.”

My Eat, Drink & Be Married girls and I are on the cover of Southern Living

The Eat, Drink & Be Married girls (that’s me, Patty Laurel-Filart and Nicole Hernandez-de los Angeles) are featured in this month’s cover of Southern Living! ❤ How cool, our little online show is getting noticed–we are so happy to know that people watch it and actually enjoy it.

Doing cover shoots like this is always fun, especially since I was working the cam with my best girls. Watch out–the photos show a different side of us (we are not our usual cheery selves for this shoot). For this feature we are nonchalant and (feeling) cool moms hahaha.

Thank you to Bea Ledesma of for this awesome feature. ❤

My Baby Planet

I have to say, motherhood has taught me so many life lessons. It sounds crazy, especially since my son is only a year and nine months old haha, but seriously, taking care of a baby has been quite the challenge for this new mom. The learning curve is steep, especially during the first three months after the baby is born. There are so many little trials, triumphs and defeats that happen on a daily basis, that one is just left amazingly overwhelmed. And it doesn’t end–the cycle continues each day, until I guess your baby becomes more independent (I’m assuming this is when he is in college haha).

I know, I am still in the beginning stages of motherhood, so I cant look that far ahead. But boy, was it a crazy first year. It’s like from being pregnant, you’re supposed to instinctively know what to do and become this perfect caregiver (weirdly enough, I imposed this on myself which was really unnecessary). Of course, we all know the ending to this story–we moms make mistakes and are far from perfect. It is actually our babies who do most of the work (nope, they don’t just eat, sleep, poop, repeat). They are our most patient teachers, who try to mold us into the parents we are meant to be. It is really a give and take, and the relationship relies mostly on trust and instinct.

Gosh, I remember how crazy I felt during those days. I could not leave the house because I was still getting used to taking care of another human. At the same time, my body was healing and getting over postpartum depression. It was a crazy time–I depended mainly on my husband to run the house and replenish anything we consumed like food, toiletries, house supplies and diapers. I remember wishing there were a site I could go to for all my baby needs; a service that will deliver what I need straight to my home. There were so many things that needed to be done and there was not enough time to do them. Having this convenience would’ve made my life so much easier. (It’s a good thing I had a great support group of positive moms, like the Baby Barangay and Maricel and Beng of The Parenting Emporium.)

That’s why I was all smiles when I found out there is actually an all-in-one baby shopping website that delivers. Finally, a site where you can buy anything from diapers, baby bath products, detergent, toys, things for the nursery–you can get them all from! They are the same people behind SNR, so you can be assured of their quality and service. And seriously, they are so complete. Anything a mom needs for her baby and herself is there! ❤

I attended the opening of their first store: it is located in Puregold Qi Central along Araneta corner E. Rodriguez Ave in Quezon City, and I have to say, I was impressed. They had the essentials, and they have all the best-selling products we moms would usually have to purchase abroad. I couldn’t help but do a little shopping while I was there as I knew these would sell-out right away. They assured me though that they had more than enough stock and there is more to come. Happiness!

Scroll down to see some of the available products in the store. And be sure to click on to the website to find a slew of baby products–I swear, they have so many amazing brands available at a click of a button.

Stay fresh this summer with Belo Baby cologne

While the rest of the world is transitioning into spring, Manila is officially experiencing summer! Yes, it has been blazing hot over here in the Philippines, and everyone I know has been trying to find ways to stay cool. Over here at Casa Fernandez, the struggle is definitely real, which is why we’ve pulled on all the stops–we’ve stocked up on ice cream (and ice), switched on the A/C, fan and all cooling devices at home, and we’re heading to the beach soon!

Our little boy Tristan has been feeling the heat the most, which prompted us to find more creative ways to beat the heat. As you know, kids are the most vulnerable to hot weather conditions, and are prone to heatstroke or getting sick. Keeping them cool is a must; which is why I’m sharing with you the little tricks that have so far helped our energetic toddler stay cool.

Buy summer-friendly clothes. I actually had to do this out of necessity. Tristan went on a full-on clothing strike as soon as it got hotter, and he just refused to wear any clothes whether we were at home or outside. At first I thought it was something we could get over if I let him cry it out. But oh my, he was just so uncomfortable I knew it was just too hot. He did not stop crying until we removed his clothes!! I knew his old clothes had to go, so I went out and bought him loose, breathable clothes–sandos, soft cotton t-shirts and loose shorts. After that, problem solved–he’s been wearing clothes ever since!

Stay hydrated. This goes for both momma (especially if you’re breastfeeding) and baby. Drinking water constantly throughout the day makes a world of difference and just protects you both from heat-stroke or dehydration. Also, try to avoid salty food, like chips and instead serve fruits and vegetables as snacks.

Time outdoor activities wisely. Tristan’s pedia advised that he stay indoors from 10am to 4pm, because these are the hottest hours of the day. So we try to take our toddler out for a walk in the morning and go to the park or go for a quick dip in the pool in the afternoon. Watch out for mosquitos though–always apply baby-friendly bug repellant when you go out of the house!

Hide in the shade. When you’re out, try to stay in the shade to keep cool. If this means having to wear a hat and sunglasses, then do it. P.S. There are so many adorable sun gear that are made for babies. They are super cute!

Keep skin cool. When it gets really hot, I give Tristan a bath and skip the heater. He usually enjoys this, and stays a little longer than usual so I bring in his favorite toys and make it a playtime experience. If we are out, I apply Belo Baby cologne on him and it instantly cools him down. Plus, the yummy scents (my favorite is Cool Drizzle but Happy Tickle and Sweet Snuggle are just as bango) refresh my little guy and make him super huggable. The best part: all three are gentle, non-irritating, hypoallergenic and dermatologist-tested. That’s why I use it on Tristan and recommend it to you mommas. Oh, and it is actually my favorite as well, because when I use it, I’m immediately put in a better mood. It smells so good! ❤
