Adidas Originals Presents DJ Neil Armstrong

Adidas has a new global ambassador, and he also happens to be Filipino. DJ Neil Armstrong (real name: Neil Rodriguez), was proudly announced by the sportswear brand to be one of its representatives to join the likes of pop superstar Katy Perry, tennis player Caroline Wozniacki and athlete Wei Qiuyue.

Last week, Adidas Originals held an event to celebrate the famous DJ. I was invited, but I have to admit I had to look up his name to check who his was. You see, I am not exactly a hardcore hip-hop fan. I definitely appreciate the music, but I am so terrible at knowing about the artist/DJ. (Fail!) I’m glad I did my research though, because I found out that Neil was actually Jay-Z’s tour DJ and he worked with fantastic hip-hop artists like De La Soul, The Roots, Kanye West, LL Cool J and Busta Rhymes in the 90s; his popular mix tapes also spurred media attention from Rolling Stone, Vibe and MTV.com; and he has since travelled the globe for countless events and club appearances. Lately, he has shared the stage with Beyonce, Rihanna, Swiss Beats, Puff Daddy, Timbaland and many more artists. I really felt like kicking myself because I didn’t know him!

The event took place at Skye Lounge and started way early: 4pm. It was refreshing to be at an event at this time. The sun was still up when I arrived but it wasn’t too hot (and it didn’t rain, thankfully). There were comfy couches around the place, and mojitos and white sangria were served. My favorite though were the grilled burgers and sausages available at the buffet.

For the most part, the party was very chill. But when DJ Neil Armstrong started his set, the mood changed almost immediately. It became energized and people started dancing. I liked that people were still able to talk and mingle while enjoying the music. The photo booth was also a favorite at the event. I didn’t think so at first, until more and more people started lining up for it. I have to say, it was a good evening. I had fun!
