Everyone is still on a high from the Golden Globe Awards yesterday! Personally, I like this awards show more than the Oscars, because it gives recognition to the best of movie and television, so we get to see a nice mix of actors in one event. It is also a lot more fun–obviously a lot less stiff and serious than the Oscars. But what really made this show a win for me were the fantastic hosts. Super smart and witty comediennes Tina Fey and Amy Poehler hosted the show for the second time and both were amazing. These two women have such great chemistry and timing. They are so entertaining to watch!
And of course, another thing worth talking about at the Golden Globes is the fashion! There were so many interesting gowns this year, with some more memorable than the others (hello, J.Law’s Dior gown). Fire engine red is definitely a huge color this season, and so is champagne and white. But more than the colors, we saw a lot of structured gowns, heavy beading/embellishment, and the use of lace and satin. I love how this year so many actresses took risks with their dresses, choosing unique cuts and draping and playing around with color.
Scroll down to see my favorite (and not so fave) gowns at the Golden Globes:
This gown hands down won best dressed for me. The color and cut of the dress is exquisite! Lupita Nyong’o really stood out with this winning Red Ralph Lauren gown.
Red gown and red shoes on the red carpet. Perfection.
Though a lot of people didn’t really like this dress, I have to give props to Jennifer Lawrence. She made this such a memorable gown (I just saw photos of a cat and dog wearing makeshift copies haha). I can soooo see this as a popular Halloween costume this year!
Emma looks amazing! Again, in red! This dress is really something else–it is so simple and flattering, especially when paired with that cobalt blue shoe. Love, love, LOVE this dress!
This is what made it so interesting! The back was cut open to reveal–tadaaah–pants! She must’ve been so comfortable that night. What an ingenious design by Dior!
One of my favorite actresses–Cate Blanchett wearing Armani Couture. This is such a stunning gown. The lace is just so delicate and gorgeous! She also took home the Best Actress in a Movie Drama for Blue Jasmine.
Naomi Watts looking every bit like a movie star. I love this gold Tom Ford dress!!! It is so beautiful!
Preggy Kerry Washington in a sleek white Balenciaga dress! This gown looks so fresh and modern and it really draws attention to her baby bump, in a good way of course!
Jessica Chastain in a black Givenchy gown. This look simple but still very elegant. With a face and gorgeous hair like hers, you don’t really need to do much. Those diamonds though–oh my!
Oliva Wilde wearing Gucci. This dress is stunning, a little rock and roll-disco for a pregnant woman, but still very glam. Well, I think that’s the whole point of the dress.
Amy Adams in Valentino. Though I do love the two-tone color (in red, no less), I didn’t really like the dress on her. I think Amy would’ve been better off in a more elegant number. This dress was kind of plain and not so flattering. She did win Best Actress in a Motion Picture Comedy so all is forgiven.
Sandra Bullock wearing Prabal Gurung. I know, a lot of people put this in the category of worst dressed, but in a way the gown kind of grows on me. At first I’m like, what the heck, but then okay, if you break it down, the top part looks good but the bottom part kills it. The Alice-In-Wonderland ice blue bottom looks very young on her and its cut short to show the shoes and overall it does not look that great. I do love her hair and makeup though–she looks so pretty!
Zoe Saldana also in Prabal Gurung did not get good reviews, but again, am I weird that I like it? I think its so different and edgy, it stood out in a crowd of celebrities.
Some people put Zooey Deschanel’s dress on their worst dressed list, but okay–I like it too! I like the top and skirt ensemble, but not the shoes or the hair/flower. This could’ve been something!
Caitlin Fitzgerald in Emilia Wickstead. This retro Alice-in-Wonderland blue dress looks kind of simple but it had a nice retro cut and its super memorable because of its color. I like her shoes!
I really admire Lena Dunham for wearing this canary yellow gown. The color stood out like anything, and it suits her television personality.
There’s something wrong with this dress, I just can’t put my finger on it. Im not sure if its the tent-like silhouette or the ice blue necklace. Or maybe its because Sofia Vergara is blonde?
I’m not sure what happened to Julia Roberts. Her dress looks very dated and uninspired. Her hair didn’t help either.
These are women to emulate–smart, funny and beautiful Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.
I love that Emma Thompson brought her cocktail onstage and even removed her heels haha.
