This is one of the best Christmas gifts I received last year! I got a Jawbone UP24 over the holidays (thank you, Dan’s Group of Companies–FOLLOW them on Instagram: @dans_ph and LIKE them on Facebook: www.facebook.com/DansPhilippines) and had no idea how life changing this gadget was. If I had known, I would’ve started using it earlier (I just started using it a few weeks ago). Well, it doesn’t help that I am completely clueless when it comes to these things, so I really had no idea how cool this fitness tracker is! If you watched the video, you’ll see that it is actually a cool toy that connects to an app on your phone. It’s designed to monitor your sleep, the number of steps you take in a day, and food/calorie intake. At first I thought, oh how boring. But seriously, it is super effective for me because I get to see my progress in a matter of minutes, hours, days and weeks and I see it right on my phone.
So of course, I am not as active as I used to be. These days I am all about sleeping, and I can barely exercise or run, because of this pregnancy. But then I think how much lazier would I be without my Jawbone UP24–I would be a sloth! This is the coolest thing: this fitness band actually vibrates when I don’t move for 20 minutes, which is such a great reminder to get up and get moving. In my case, I use it as a reminder to get up and get a glass of water (I want to make sure I stay hydrated this pregnancy). And it works! I actually get chores and some light housework done, and it can be as simple as fixing the pantry or straightening out the living room. The only thing I don’t like about the whole vibrate thing is when I’m sleeping or napping and I forget to press this button on the band (to say I’m resting) and I wake up because of it. But then that’s my fault for not remembering to press the button.
To track your sleep, you need to press the button (its the only thing you can press on the band) for about a second. The moon symbol lights up and you’re ready to sleep. I love this, because I really get to see how well I sleep: it shows when you sleep soundly and lightly, and even when you wake up in the middle of the night (which surprisingly happens to me a lot but I don’t remember). Its so accurate, its a little scary haha. In the morning when you wake up, simply press the button again to tell the band that you’re up and awake.
My goal for my daily number of steps is 10,000, which I have to admit, I only reached twice since I started. I bought groceries for the house that day and did a bunch of errands. But I haven’t been able to achieve the goal lately, which is fine. At least I’m walking, even if its around the house.
When it comes to food, you can input what you ate, how much of it you ate and it shows you the number of calories you consumed and its food grade. I am not too concerned about calories right now since I am pregnant, but I really take note of the food grade (its from a scale of 1 to 10). Food with the highest grade are fruits and vegetables and all other healthy, balanced dishes, while the ones with low grades are junk food, and food with high sugar and/or salt. It teaches you to reach for the healthier choice, which is another great reminder. It also gives you tips on what to eat, recipes to try and yummy, healthy alternatives for snacking. WIN!!!
Another great thing about it is you can connect to your other friends who have Jawbones. And so far the only friend I know with a Jawbone is Patty, but I’m convincing my BFF Bianca (who’s also preggy now) to get one, too. I think that would be super fun, so then we can compare stats and remind each other to eat right and get moving.
This really is a wonderful gadget, and I recommend you get one for yourself! Price is only P8,590 available at Dan’s Bike Shop specialized concept store, Runnr (Bonifacio Global City / SM North Edsa), Toby’s (Mall of Asia / Edsa Shangri-la / Alabang Town Center), Move (SM Megamall), Chris Sports (Glorietta / SM North Edsa) and Deuter (Mall of Asia).
* Stats are not mine. I am too ashamed to show my stats–so not blog worthy haha.
