A new show for Tristan: Disney’s The Lion Guard

Everyone close to me knows I am a certified Disney kid. I used to be obsessed with anything Disney, especially the movies! I bought all the VHS copies of my favorites: Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin and The Lion King and watched them over and over again. I even had a complete collection of cassette tapes, just so I can listen and memorize all the songs! I especially LOVE the movies that came out during my time (the last four titles I mentioned), including The Lion King. I love all the songs in the movie, and THE STORY! Hay, I still tear up when I think about it. The story is etched in my heart, which is no surprise because I must’ve watched it a hundred times.

Now that I have a baby I am already thinking of what Disney movies and shows I can introduce him. We recently watched Finding Dory in the cinema (it was with other babies and toddlers–I’ll blog about it soon), and before that we saw the first half of The Lion King. I know of course, Tristan still can’t sit through a movie, but I can tell our little kiddo understands. He smiles when he sees the animals, especially when Carlos and I identify each animal. That’s why we were all kinds of excited when we found out there is actually a movie sequel to The Lion King, and a television series that follows soon after the premiere. This only means there is more for Tristan to watch when he gets older, but yes, I am happy too because I will get to follow it along with my son.
The epic storytelling of Disney’s The Lion King continues with television movie: The Lion Guard: Return of the Roar. The movie follows Kion, the second-born cub of Simba and Nala, as he assumes the role of leader of The Lion Guard, a team of animals tasked with preserving the Pride Lands. The movie leads into The Lion Guard television series, which now shows every weekday at 8:30am (Jkt/Thai) and 9:30am (Mal/Phil) on Disney Junior.

The Lion Guard: Return of the Roar features an all-star voice cast, which includes James Earl Jones and Ernie Sabella reprising their memorable roles from “The Lion King” as Mufasa and Pumbaa, respectively, alongside Rob Lowe as Simba and Gabrielle Union as Nala. Max Charles stars as Kion. The voice cast also includes Joshua Rush as Bunga; Atticus Shaffer as Ono; Diamond White as Fuli; and Dusan Brown as Beshte.

Set in the African Savanna, The Lion Guard: Return of the Roar follows Kion as he assembles the members of the Lion Guard. Traditionally, The Lion Guard comprised of the bravest and strongest lions in the Pride Lands. However, Kion defies tradition by calling upon some of his friends who typically wouldn’t have made the cut. From Kion’s best friend Bunga, a fearless honey badger, to Ono, an intellectual egret, to Fuli, a confident cheetah, and to Beshte, a friendly and good-spirited hippo, the newly formed Lion Guard is a rag tag group of unlikely heroes, united in their purpose to protect the Pride Lands. Throughout the movie and the series, the team will learn to utilize each of their unique abilities as they face new adventures in upholding the balance within the Circle of Life.

I’ve been following the series since it started, and have to say my favorite is Kion himself! I loved Simba in The Lion King, so naturally I am drawn to the character of his son. He is a natural born leader, just like his dad and he is so darn cute! Oh and before I forget, I announced a contest in my Instagram, Twitter and Facebook pages and chose 3 winners!
Congratulations @chantingjhaysie, @guerrerofhat and @tyreblack, you all win The Lion Guard gift packs!!! <3 Thank you for joining my contest and continue watching The Lion Guard with me. Ill have more announcements and contests in store for you soon. In the meantime, catch The Lion Guard every weekday morning at 9:30am on Disney Junior.
