This year’s Make Your Own Havaianas (MYOH) event was a throwback to the ’90s, and of course, the Baby Barangay just had to be there. We had the absolute best time, as we time-travelled to a decade when koosh balls, Archie comics, cassette tapes, glow-in-the-dark everything and Nintendo were all the rage. It was surreal to hear N’Sync, Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera hits while choosing our most ’90s-inspired Havaianas flip-flops for ourselves and our kiddos. We never felt so young and old at the same time lol!
MYOH is now on its 12th year and I have to say, each year it only gets bigger and better. The event is actually now longer, and spread out all across the Philippines, which makes it super accessible to anyone who wants a new customized pair. The fun part is in mixing and matching straps and soles, as well as adding special pins to create the perfect pair that’s uniquely yours. I love that the kids can now customize their own flip-flops as well. It is so much fun to watch them choose from the different colors, straps and pins. Plus, they end up wearing their Havaianas all the time, because it is their very own special pair!
This year, Havaianas offered rad glow-in-the-dark straps and pins, selected Top colors in kids’ sizes, nostalgic ‘90s icons as pins, and 3D pins that can be ready-made or customized with your initials! Talk about taking customization to a whole new level! Oh, and this year’s commemorative pair is a classic black-straps-on-black-sole combo with colorful pixels as the print, inspired by eight-bit video games during the ‘90s, which comes with a cool drawstring bag with a matching print.
