Like most of you, I grew up loving Sanrio characters like Hello Kitty, My Melody and Little Twin Stars. I remember my dream was to have an entire room filled with these characters, and so I saved up all my money to buy these, and my collection grew over the years. I bought anything I could get my hands on, and if I couldn’t afford it I would ask my parents and grandparents to get it for me. Of course, I didn’t get everything I asked for and some items took a long time to save up for, but it was all worth it! I loved my Hello Kitty school bag, my Kerokerokeroppi pencil case, My Melody notebooks, Little Twin Star jewelry box, Minna No Tabo notepads and Badtz-Maru lunchbox. I took care of my things because they were Sanrio, and spent most of my free time in Gift Gate memorizing all their merchandise so I’d know what to save my money on next. Looking back, I cant really explain my obsession with the characters. But they were just so cute, and the merchandise were always so well-made, I was just so happy staring at them all day.

So you must imagine how absolutely thrilled I was to find out that Happy Skin, one of my favorite makeup brands, has collaborated with Sanrio. The little girl in me went crazy, and I really made time to attend the launch. I have to say, it didn’t disappoint. Happy Skin’s newest collection is everything I dreamed of, and more. And I seriously felt like that little girl in Gift Gate who memorized all their merchandise, becuase I really took the time to study each product and try them on my face and nails. My favorites are: Happy Skin x Sanrio Characters Get Cheeky With Me All-Day Hydrating Blush in My Melody (P899) – it comes in a wine-red powder blush, the Air Touch Sponge Duo in Little Twin Stars (P499) – two makeup blending sponges for the cheeks and under eye area, the Make A Clean Sweep Micellar Makeup Wipes (P249) – so easy and convenient for travel, Shut Up & Kiss Me Liquid Matte Lippe in Kitty Cat – a cool red shade and Twinkle Twinkle – a nude honey tone (both P699).

This is actually a big deal because this collection marks Sanrio’s first collaboration with a local cosmetics brand in the country, giving Happy Skin the honor of being Sanrio’s first local cosmetic partner. The brand’s founders Rissa Mananquil-Trillo and Jacqe Yuengtian-Gutierrez couldn’t be more proud. “This partnership is perfect because it strengthens the love Filipinos have for Sanrio characters. The Philippines is actually the first country to carry Sanrio outside Japan that’s why we are the country who has had the longest love for Hello Kitty, My Melody, and Little Twin Stars,” Rissa explains. “It was an honor to meet Mrs. Yuko Tsuji last March at the Sanrio Licensing presentation—the wife of the late Mr. Kunihiko Tsuji who had the vision to take Sanrio outside Japan. There is so much love for Sanrio characters around the world because of him!” emphasizes Rissa. Both Happy Skin and Sanrio developed products that women would not only love, but would be able to effortlessly incorporate into their daily beauty routine. And to properly highlight and amplify all three characters, Happy Skin x Sanrio Characters proudly became Happy Skin’s biggest collection to date, offering an array 23 different products for the face, lips, and nails.

The launch was every Sanrio fans’ dream turned into reality. It showcased three true-to-life dream rooms filled with collectible Hello Kitty, My Melody and Little Twin Stars items; a ribbon-clad rainbow arch; blowup versions of Hello Kitty, My Melody, the twins Kiki and Lala; and the iconic Hello Kitty herself made a very special appearance! I couldn’t express how incredibly happy I was to be there–the little girl in me was doing cartwheels because she was so happy!
