I remember when Carlos and I finally moved to our home. The house was a complete disaster. It was filled with furniture and SO MANY boxes, we really didn’t know which went where. It took us about a week to get everything sorted, but I distinctly recall working on the bedroom and bathroom first. It just made sense. Fixing the house is hard work and I really wanted to make sure we got proper rest, as we needed to do more sorting and organizing the next day, and the days after that on top of our actual work. This saved us, as we were able to shower and rest when we felt tired or overwhelmed, which was pretty much every day of that week.
It was only then when I truly appreciated the importance of the bedroom and bathroom in my home. These provide comfort and rest, and for the most part, it becomes our sanctuary or personal space (even if you share it with another person). Personally, I go to great lengths to make my bedroom feel luxe and comfortable. I don’t mind spending for my bed, my mattress and sheets, because it really makes a huge difference when I get a good night’s sleep. Plus, in case you didn’t know, humans spend more than 30% of their lives sleeping, which is A LONG TIME if you think about it. You don’t want to scrimp on this because sleep directly affects our quality of life and health. If you can wake up feeling like a million bucks every day, then it must be worth it.
Same goes for the bathroom, which is my second favorite room of the house. All my beauty products are there, lined up by height and specifically organized by kind in boxes and containers (its skincare, haircare, makeup–then powders, blush, lipstick, mascara, etc.). I love spending time in there, taking a shower, doing my makeup and hair and all the other personal stuff you do when you’re in the bathroom. I love anything that keeps me clean (its a Virgo thing, I’m completely obsessive compulsive) so this place is my haven. Needless to say, I wouldn’t think twice to spend for these specific rooms. Of course, I like dressing up my house in general–its always fun to buy things for the house. But getting amazing finds for my bedroom and bathroom tops my list any day.
So here comes the exciting part: there is actually an ongoing Bed and Bath Fair at SM Home at the SM Store!!! It started last January 29 and it will be on until March 1. I’ve already made my initial trip this week (to scope out exciting deals, of course), and let me tell you–there are so many amazing finds, its so worth the trip. I purchased the essentials: super comfortable linen and bed sheets from Esprit Home, an extra rack for my new clothes (a trick I recently learned: I don’t mix my new clothes with the old to ensure I wear the new stuff right away), leather boxes to organize my magazines and just random papers, and a nice sleek hamper to match my bedroom’s interiors. I’m seriously thinking if I should buy an extra bed for our guest room (which we haven’t started on yet), and so far, all signs are pointing to YES. This is my next project!! For my bathroom, I’ve purchased these colorful towels (also from Esprit Home), because you can never have too many towels in your house, matching soap dispensers and toothbrush holders, and a shower caddy. I’ve discovered that switching bathroom accessories can make this room look new and fresh, so I’m sort of collecting matching accessories to switch up when I get bored of my current ones. Tip: these also make great gifts, especially if you are able to get a set that matches your friend’s style. I usually ask my friends first if they like it though before giving them away.
If you were thinking of dressing up your bedroom and accessorizing your bathroom, well, I don’t think there is a more PERFECT time than NOW. SM Home’s ongoing Bed and Bath Fair carries a wide variety of items ON SALE–from mattresses to bed linens, organizers and even decorative pieces. Check out my bedroom and bathroom finds:
These boxes are so multi-purpose. You can store important documents in there, photos, keepsakes and many more. I like them because they make my room look clean and clutter free.
I love this particular linen and bed sheet set–it looks so relaxing. I just want to sleep when I look at it.
This was that rack I was talking about. So what usually happens with me is I buy something new, like a dress for example, and it gets lost in my closet as I tend to grab the same things over and over again. The rack reminds me to wear the new stuff, so I don’t waste money buying things I don’t use.
These colorful towels look great, and they’re perfect to bring to the beach, too.
Another set in a relaxing color. I love this!
Something every bathroom needs: a shower caddy! This helps organize your shampoo, conditioner, soap and all the other stuff you use in the shower.
More colorful towels from Esprit Home.
This one looks vibrant and fresh. It’s an easy way to change the look of your bedroom.
This clothes hamper looks super cool, and it has all these vents so your clothes don’t stink inside.
Basic white sheets: a bedroom essential. What is cool though is this leather bed! This is perfect for our guest room.
Or this pullout bed might work, too. In case we have more than one guest in the house.
More towels to choose from. These are super plush and big, just the way I like them.
There’s nothing like a good mattress to get a good night’s sleep. This one is a must for my guest room.
