Since having a baby I’ve become a lot more particular about the cleanliness of our home. I mean, I’ve always been a little obsessive compulsive, but now I really need the house to be super clean and tidy at all times. This means extra work for us (since we don’t have a maid/helper at home) but it is all worth it as Tristan can run and play in a clean and safe environment. I have to say, we’ve been pretty good with keeping the house clean but I’ve always wondered why Carlos would still get allergies, even after we’ve cleaned the house. There would also be times when Tristan would sneeze and cough when we would turn on the air conditioner or fan, which is weird because we always make sure the air filter and blades are clean.

Well, the mystery was finally solved when we got ourselves a Dyson Pure Cool Link Air Purifier. We found out that while our house looked clean on the surface, our air was in fact, not clean at all. This was hard for me to understand, because based on what I knew, only the air outside could get dirty or polluted. When you’re indoors, you’re safe from car exhaust, smoke and all kinds of pollutants. This is so wrong. Indoor air could actually be dirtier, as dust, smoke, dander, germs and odors can get trapped in our homes for days/weeks/months, especially when you don’t allow fresh air to come in regularly. Of course, I had no way of measuring how bad the air quality is at home prior to getting a Dyson Pure Cool Link. I simply assumed it was clean based on what I could see.

Here are some things I learned about indoor air: we don’t see A LOT of the particles that are floating in the air we breathe, and some of these can be dangerous when we are exposed to it for a very long time. These include odors and toxic fumes (think of all the potent cleaning materials we use like strong acids, as well as insecticide), pollutants, benzene (a carcinogenic substance found in paint, glue and thinners–this is linked to cancer), and bacteria, influenza A virus and fungi. The scary part about this is the naked eye can not see these particles (if human hair is 100.0 Microns, these particles can be as small as 2.5 to 0.1 Microns) and as we breathe these in, they can cluster on the lining of the lungs. This has been linked to heart attacks, strokes and skin aging.

Dyson Pure Cool Link fan is designed to remove 99.95% of particles as small as 0.01 Microns. It has a lower face velocity, which means it effectively filters air and traps it in its filter media. Combined with a high-efficiency HEPA filter, this means that potentially harmful, ultra fine particles stay inside the purifier until it’s time to change the filter. Pretty awesome, right?! I was blown away by this too, and I can see that it really works because since getting one, Carlos’s allergies has stopped completely, and Tristan doesn’t sneeze or cough anymore when we turn on the air-conditioning or fan.

2.) There is a free app you can download to connect to your Dyson Pure Link that will tell you when the air around you needs purifying. Okay, so remember when I said I was finally able to see how bad the air was in home when I got the Dyson Pure Cool Link? Well, it is because of this app! This is so wonderful–the app can tell you what the condition of your air is at home and will even tell you when it’s time to change the filter of the fan (usually in one year with 12 hours of use every day). The app can also act as a remote that lets you control and apply settings to the fan. You can actually turn on the machine using your phone from anywhere in the world!

3.) Its design is sleek, stylish and effective. Since we got this fan, we’ve been getting plenty of compliments and inquiries about it. Our family and friends get shocked when they find out it is a fan and air purifier in one, because it is so sleek and quiet. And Carlos and I just love how it looks–design-wise, it goes well with all the rooms of our house. It is also so easy to clean, and it has a magnetized remote that you can dock on top of the fan, which makes it hard to lose.

4.) You can control the settings for cold and warm weather. Based on our experience, settings 1-3 works well to circulate purified air in an air-conditioned room while settings 4-10 will generate smooth, long-range airflow that’s ideal for warm weather. You would think that the fan isn’t that strong, but it is. The only difference is that is doesn’t generate airflow using rotating blades, which makes it super safe for babies/children.

5.) It is the best sleep companion. Dyson purifiers come with an automatic night-time mode. The machine will continue to monitor and respond to air quality while you’re asleep, but only using the quietest settings. Its LED display dims, too, so you wont be disturbed. Oh, and the Dyson Pure Cool Link has recently been awarded on the quietest fans in the world so it really is the best fan to sleep with, especially when you have a child in the room.

To be honest, we are so happy with our Dyson Pure Cool Link. Our indoor air is clean and safe, and we don’t have to worry about Tristan touching any rotating blades. Plus, it is such a great investment as it is one of the most used appliance in our home!
