Baby essentials: Why we use Cycles Mild Laundry Detergent

IMG_1073

Apart from all the things a baby needs (and the list is long enough as it is), there is one product that tends to be overlooked: laundry detergent. I never really gave this a second thought until I realized I had to start washing Tristan’s clothes, towels and beddings weeks before he was born. We were using pretty strong detergents at that time (I know because our clothes would come out of the laundry with a strong but pleasant scent), which I immediately knew would not be suitable to my baby’s sensitive skin. My mommy instincts switched on, and I knew that the last thing my baby needs is to be introduced to powerful cleaning chemicals and perfumes, as it can likely cause flare-ups, allergies and/or rashes (this was confirmed by my pediatrician, who made it very clear that we had to switch to a gentle detergent as soon as possible).

And so after much research on gentle detergents, I found one that is locally-made and has been around for quite some time (10 years to be exact). It’s called CYCLES, and they have an impressive range of baby-friendly products that includes their best-selling detergent and stain-soaker, baby wash and lotion (from their Cycles Sensitive line); as well as bottle and nipple cleanser, and toy and surface cleaner, which are under their CRADLE line. I’ve been using the entire range since before Tristan was born and I have to say, I am very happy with it. They all have a gentle scent that isn’t overpowering, and so far my baby hasn’t had any skin reactions to their detergents and cleansing products. I am so impressed with Cycles and Cradle that we switched our strong detergents for these gentle ones and our clothes come out just as clean, with a sweet baby scent that we love.

I thought you moms (and mom-to-bes) would like to know more about Cycles and Cradle. Here are more information about their products.

1.) Cycles Mild Detergent For Babies. This is made from hypoallergenic, ultra-mild and baby-friendly ingredients that are kind to your baby’s sensitive skin. It is good to remember that unlike other detergents, Cycles is especially made for babies. It does not have harsh chemicals and does not leave soap residue that may harm your baby’s sensitive skin. Also, it does not contain irritants such as dyes, optical brighteners, enzymes, bleach and fabric softeners which you will find in other detergents. I am so happy with this product!

2.) Cycles Stain Soaker. This product has been heaven-sent. All the pee, poop and throw-ups tend to stain baby’s clothes and ruin them (this is a waste if you’ve only used it a couple of times). I love how this removes all the stains without affecting the color of the clothes. Plus it has no chlorine, no optical brighteners and no dyes!

3.) Cradle Baby Bottle and Nipple Cleanser. Even with thorough rinsing, ordinary dishwashing cleansers leave chemicals that may be harmful to your baby. Most dishwashing liquids have Triclosan, a toxic chemical that has been found by the US Environmental Protection Agency to have links with highly carcinogenic chemicals called dioxin. This wonder product is made from natural and Edible ingredients found in plant extracts. And this can double as a fruit and veggie wash!

4.) Cradle Toy and Surface Cleaner. I’ve used this on Tristan’s toys and diaper changing top to clean it and so far it has really been doing its job well. Also I have this on standby when my baby learns to grab and throw things which will all end up on the floor. This is a great product for OC mommas (like me) who like to keep things clean.
